Paula Creamer Health Update

Over the last week or so we have received a large number of emails asking about Paula Creamer’s health. Unfortunately, we do not have any information that you haven’t already heard. Still, I thought it would be a good idea to post something here just to let everyone know what we have heard.

For those who don’t know… Over the last couple of months Paula has been dealing with a stomach ailment that is causing a loss of appetite, nausea, and shaking. As a result, she has experienced some weight loss and is struggling with fatigue. It has been referred to as a “mystery illness” by some publications. That’s basically all we know at this point.

We have heard that she will be seeing some specialists later this week to determine the cause. I think this was also mentioned during the telecast of the Kraft Nabisco Championship on ESPN.

We certainly hope that it is nothing serious and look forward to seeing Paula compete in the Corona Championship next week in Mexico. As soon as we have any additional information we will let you know.

Kraft Nabisco Championship Final Round Update

Congratulations to Brittany Lincicome!

In order to win her first major championship Lincicome had to battle her nerves and two other golfers, Cristie Kerr and Kristy McPherson. In the end, she was up to the task.

Lincicome carded a three-under-par 69 in the final round of the Kraft Nabisco Championship at Mission Hills Country Club for a 72-hole total of nine-under 279. Kerr, the 2007 United States Women’s Open champion, sank her birdie attempt on 18 to finish with a one-under 71. McPherson, who started the day one stroke ahead of Kerr and two in front of Lincicome, made a par on the last hole for a 72.

Not only did she win but she won with what could be the greatest shot in the history of the Kraft Nabisco Championship. Lincicome’s shot to five feet from the pin – over water, to an island green, trailing by one stroke – from 210 yards with a hybrid was simply spectacular.

Paula Creamer also finished up with a final round of three-under-par 69. Unfortunately her third round 77 ended any chance she had of winning her first major championship. The tough conditions and the fact that she is still struggling with the stomach ailment made this a very difficult week for Paula.

Kraft Nabisco Championship Second Round Update

The only winner today was Mother Nature as the players struggled with the windy conditions during the second round of the Kraft Nabisco Championship at Mission Hills Country Club. LPGA Tour official Doug Brecht said the wind built through the afternoon, from a constant 10-20 mph at noon to 20-30 mph from 2 p.m. on. He said it was 31 mph at 5 p.m.

Paula Creamer never really got things rolling today but did manage to stay in contention as other players really struggled with the wind. Her even par 72 was good enough to move her into a tie for seventh place at 2 under. She goes into weekend only 4 shots behind the leaders despite not playing her best golf.

A good round on Saturday could put Paula in perfect position to capture her first major championship.

Graeme Baxter Paints Paula Creamer Portrait

The Kraft Nabisco Championship commissioned Graeme Baxter to paint a portrait of Paula Creamer, the LPGA player known as the “Pink Panther”, in celebration of the 2009 tournament being played at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, California.

“We’ve had such a success with the previous golf landscape paintings of Mission Hills signature holes over the past five years and we’re excited to continue to be a part of Kraft’s LPGA program,” states Graeme. “It’s the one tournament I look forward to the most, year after year because the Kraft team is great to work with and the crowds are fun.”

Graeme Baxter is renowned for his original golf art landscape oil paintings of signature holes from the world’s most prestigious golf clubs, but has in recent years been commissioned to do portrait paintings for PGA and LPGA Champions, the likes of Padraig Harrington and now Paula Creamer. For professional golfers and their sponsors, lithograph prints of the original painting are great for awards, corporate gifts and charitable donations.

The Paula Creamer Kraft portrait was unveiled this week by Graeme Baxter and Dennis Belcrastro at a private party in her honor. After unveiling Paula was speechless but eventually was able to say, “I love it. I just absolutely love it and I can’t stop staring at it.”

The original oil painting will be on display in the Clubhouse at Mission Hills and at the exhibition area adjacent the practice range for the duration of the event. Giclees prints signed by Paula Creamer will also be available for sale at the event in the Graeme Baxter Golf Art Exhibition booth.

Kraft Nabisco Championship First Round Scores

Paula Creamer played very well in the first round of the Kraft Nabisco Championship at Mission Hills Country Club despite continuing to suffer from a mysterious stomach ailment. She managed to navigate the par 72 course with 2 birdies, 16 pars, and most importantly… 0 bogeys.

All things considered, it was a very good start for Paula but it could have easily been much better. Her iron play was a little shaky at times and it cost her a few birdie opportunities. After the round, Creamer felt she had some work to do…

“I played better than 2-under and anytime I had a chance to make birdie with my wedge, you know, I had about a 20-footer. I’ll be hitting some wedges today after this interview.”

Despite missing a few scoring chances Paula still managed to put herself in position to make a run at her first major victory.

Paula Creamer: Still Sick but Staying Positive

Paula Creamer is pinning her hopes on the mantra ‘beware the ailing golfer’ at this week’s Kraft Nabisco Championship after batting a mystery illness for most of this year.

Although the American world number four has produced two top-three finishes in just four LPGA Tour starts this season, she has suffered from chills and nausea.

“I can’t eat much and my energy levels are kind of low,” Creamer told reporters at Mission Hills Country Club on Tuesday during preparations for the first women’s major of the year.

“I don’t feel quite like my normal self out there but I just have to find some energy and get through.

“But I’ve won sick before. I think it really just makes you focus on other things. You’re out there and you don’t feel well but you’re getting the job done. I’ve played my best golf when I haven’t felt well.”

Creamer, a winner of eight titles on the LPGA Tour, was forced to pull out of last week’s LPGA International on Phoenix before starting the opening round.

Creamer Looking for First Major Title

Paula Creamer has eight career titles and is the top ranked American in the world. But the Pink Panther is hungry for a major.

If, at the beginning of 2007, you had been told that seven of the next eight Majors in the ladies game would be won by first-time Major-winners, Paula Creamer would have featured pretty high on your list of likely champions.

And yet she is still seeking that first win, stuck with the unwanted title of “Best Player in the World to Have Never Won a Major”.

A Californian native she is desperate to play well in the year’s first major, the Kraft Nabisco Championship, which gets underway at Rancho Mirage on Thursday and she’ll certainly have plenty of support from family and friends in the galleries.

Only one American-born player has won the Kraft title in the last nine years, a come-from-behind victory in 2007 by Morgan Pressel. The American women most likely to win the Kraft title include Paula Creamer, Cristie Kerr, Angela Stanford, Morgan Pressel and perhaps Michelle Wie.
