Shin takes over top spot in women’s world rankings

Jiyai Shin was victorious on the Japan LPGA Tour over the weekend and that helped her take over the top spot in the women’s world golf rankings.

Shin takes over the top spot from the retiring Lorena Ochoa. Shin is just the third woman to hold the No. 1 spot, joining Annika Sorenstam and Ochoa, who had been No. 1 for 158 weeks since overtaking Sorenstam in April 2007.

Na Yeon Choi and In Kyung Kim both moved up two notches to 10th and 11th respectively. Those moves dropped Angela Stanford and Paula Creamer down a pair to 12th and 13th.


Creamer Drops to No. 4 in World Golf Rankings

Lorena Ochoa remained in first, followed by Yani Tseng. Jiyai Shin and Paula Creamer switched places this week with Shin third and the American down to fourth.

Suzann Pettersen, Angela Stanford and Cristie Kerr stayed in their rankings from last week, followed by Webb. Helen Alfredsson sank a spot to ninth and Seon-Hwa Lee held on to 10th.

Creamer Holds Position in World Golf Ranking

Jiyai Shin climbed to No. 4 in the world rankings Monday on the strength of her fourth LPGA Tour victory, a weekend win in the HSBC Champions tournament. The 20-year-old South Korean had been ranked fifth. Her ascent pushed Suzann Pettersen down one spot to fifth.

The top three places remained unchanged: Lorena Ochoa is still No. 1, followed by Yani Tseng and Paula Creamer.
